It is an herbaceous plant that grows up to a height of 30 cm. It grows in vast regions of Europe and temperate Asia. It is also found in North America.
It is of the Asteraceae family and the parts used are the flowering aerial parts.
Its main constituents are flavonoids, among them luteolin-7-glucoside, hydroxycoumarins and tannins.
Pilosella demonstrated diuretic, spasmolytic and diaphoretic activity. It is traditionally used whenever a diuretic effect is desired or in the treatment of asthma, bronchitis and cough.
